With about 1,600 full-time residents, the city of Lake Ozark is a beautiful and rapidly growing community located just off of highway 54 and 242 and is the gateway to the Lake of the Ozarks. The town was formed in the early 1930’s after Bagnell Dam was constructed, forming the Lake of the Ozarks. The damn was constructed to generate and provide hydroelectric power to the Central Missouri Ozarks and was the first such dam in the area. A post office called Lake Ozark has been in operation in the area since 1932 and the community took its name from that and the nearby Lake of the Ozarks.
As of the 2010 census there were 455 families, 715 households and a total of 1,586 living in the boundaries of Lake Ozark. There were 1,688 housing units and as there are only 715 full-time households there are a number of vacation and rental properties available.
Of the 715 full-time households, 25.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.4% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.71.
AT the time of the census, the median age in the city of Lake Ozark was 48 years. 19.2% of residents were under the age of 18 while 26.2% were between the ages of 18 and 44 with 36.9% between 45 to 64 and 17.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 51.3% male and 48.7% female.
There are many activities for the full-time residents as well as visitors and those on vacation. In addition to boating, fishing and and other types of water sports the area offers a wealth of shopping and dining opportunities to fit every palette and budget. For the golfer, there is a nationally rated golf course close by with several others only a few minutes away. As part of the on-going growth in the area, an upscale residential development is being built along the picturesque Osage River.
The city of Lake Ozark is a beautiful, vibrant, growing city and offers a wide array of activities to fit every need, taste and budget. The area offers an excellent school system and several universities have built satellite campuses nearby. There is a wide variety of homes, apartments, condos, lots, land, farms and other real estate available in the area at reasonable prices and all offer low taxes. Add in the beautiful Ozark scenery with many types of flowing plants in the spring, and beautiful colors in the fall and you have an unbeatable combination.
